Let us know if you are on any new medications ( if you pick up a prescription from the pharmacy and it says avoid sun exposure, wait a few days after you finish or ask your doctor).Blood thinners- we should know about this before, even if it is a baby aspirin. Did you have any irritation or swelling when you got the tattoo or afterwards. Is the tattoo covering up something? We cannot remove tattoos on tanned skin.Avoid sun exposure for one month after. Shower before your appointment, as we may request you leave the aftercare dressing on for 24 hours. If this is to remove eyebrows microblading you may want to schedule a test spot a least 3 weeks before the treatment. In some instances after the dark brown or black is removed you may be left with red, green, purple, blue, orange or yellow. You can leave with gray and it can change colors over time. You may decide to leave the brows rather than have a strange color for 8 weeks until your next session. If the tattoo is large and heavily inked you should consider taking over the counter analgesics. Motrin or ibuprofen 400-600mg and or Tylenol 500mg to 650mg an hour before your appointment. We provide medical grade topical numbing. We apply it an hour before and cover it with plastic. It works quickly on the eye brows, we apply it 15 minutes before. Many people with smaller fine line tattoos don't use numbing. If your tattoo is on your lower extremity or a fairly large tattoo on the arm, plan to keep it elevated the rest of the day and the next day. The swelling can be significant and you may form blisters on the first few treatments. Keeping it elevated above the heart will help prevent the blisters.
After the laser treatment we will apply a cool compress to reduce swelling and heat after the trauma to the skin. It reduces the risk of unwanted pigment changes. We will apply a dressing after the treatment. It is best to leave the dressing on for a full 24 hours. Depending on the size and or reaction we may want it to be dressed with ointment and fresh bandage everyday. When the skin is exposed make sure only very clean surfaces touch it. Keep pets and pet bedding away from it. Don't let the area touch gym equipment or public spaces. Some instances of Allergic Reaction have occured. An allergic reaction may occur to the ink that was dormant and encapsulated in your skin when the laser disintegrates it. You may not have been allergic to it when you got the tattoo, but you could have developed an allergy to similar proteins over the years. You should shower or wash the area after the dressing comes off.You will get specific instructions on how to care for the area.We need to know immediately if you develop an allergic reaction. Itching, swelling, hives. If for some reason your throat feels tight or your lips swell, call 911. It swelling and itching does not continue to lessen, we need to know. You should see a medical practitioner. Please let us know immediately if you develop redness, pain or swelling in the area. Avoid sun exposure for 1 month after. Sunscreen is not adequate if it has more than incidental exposure (in and out of the car, a short walk to the store).
