I have personally been providing laser hair removal treatments with a range of lasers, since 1997. Laser hair removal has been larely successful in this population. I can define this success, as the women may get more regrowth than most women their age and need more frequent touch up treatments. The only instances where they had intractable (uncontrollable hair growth) was when they had consistently excessively high testosterone levels. This is usually remedied with a birth control pill or spironactolone. Some clients have been tested extensively by a gynecologist or endocrinologist, present with normal testosterone levels and may still get excessive or consistent growth on their face. In those instances it was manageable with laser treatments every two to three months. If it was coarse masculine hair some faired better with electrolysis, the coarse hair usually responds really well. These clients typically had a family background of hirsutism from either parent.

The other instances where clients had recurrent growth is often seen in male body builders that supplement with high doses of testosterone regularly. Trans men may also experience excessive hair growth as they often supplement with high testosterone supplements.

More perimenopausal or menopausal women have been prescibed testosterone replacement therapy. These women see a surge or resurgence of some facial hair. They often develop some hair regrowth where the apply the gel or cream. Most say the benefits of the hormone replacement therapy outweighs the need to get a frew facial hairs lasered every few months.
